Cardiovascular Health

What is cardiovascular health? Cardiovascular health refers to the overall health of the heart and blood vessels. It includes factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, artery health, and heart function.

What are the main cardiovascular risk factors? The main cardiovascular risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, obesity, lack of physical activity, unhealthy diet, and family history of heart disease.

What is high blood pressure? High blood pressure is when the blood pressure is consistently elevated above normal values. It is a significant risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

What is cholesterol and how does it affect cardiovascular health? Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in the cells of the body. High cholesterol can build up in the arteries, narrowing them and impeding blood flow. This can lead to heart disease.

What is a heart attack? A heart attack, also known as myocardial infarction, occurs when the blood flow to the heart is blocked, usually due to a blood clot. This can damage the heart tissue and, in severe cases, can be fatal.

What are the symptoms of a heart attack? Symptoms of a heart attack may include chest pain or discomfort, a feeling of tightness, pain radiating to the left arm, neck, jaw, or back, difficulty breathing, excessive sweating, nausea, and dizziness.

What is coronary artery disease? Coronary artery disease is a condition in which the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart narrow due to plaque buildup. This can lead to angina or, in severe cases, a heart attack.

What is the importance of physical activity in cardiovascular health? Regular physical activity helps strengthen the heart and improve blood circulation. It can help control blood pressure, reduce cholesterol levels, manage weight, and improve overall cardiovascular health.

How can I maintain a healthy diet for the heart? A healthy diet for the heart involves consuming foods rich in fiber, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. You should limit the intake of saturated fats, trans fats, and sodium.
